Agrár-innovációs központok a kertészetben AgEcon
Kovacs, Terez.
A bemutatásra kerülő három településen a mezőgazdaság piacgazdaságra való áttérése eltérő alapokról indult, ezért különböző, de ugyanakkor eredményes agrár-innovációs utat járt be.

Analyzing of Special Hungarian Micro-Regions from the Point of View of a New Rural Category AgEcon
Ritter, Krisztian.
There is no universally accepted definition of the category of "rural area" in Hungary and this issue is the subject of controversy. The EU or OECD standards cannot be fully applied due to unique national characteristics. As a) the role of agriculture in the national economy has drastically decreased in the last 15 years in Hungary - due to the political transition and globalisation, and as b) this decreasing importance causes heavy and pressing problems, especially in agricultural and ex-agricultural areas and regions, job loss is a characteristic sign of the underprivileged areas, and that affects mainly the villages and rural people who have lost their jobs in the agricultural sector. Main goal of the author's Ph.D. research is an analysis of the...

Az agrárfoglalkoztatottság helyzetének vizsgálata Győr-Moson-Sopron megyében AgEcon
Karacsony, Peter; Zrak, Viktoria.
A vizsgált két szövetkezetnél és egy Zrt.-nél a földterületek nagyarányú csökkenését munkaerő-létszámcsökkenés kísérte. A pályát elhagyni kényszerültek jelentős, mintegy 30 százaléka tartósan munkanélkülivé vált, a többiek pedig más szektorokban (ipari, szolgáltatói) helyezkedtek el. A vezetők, illetve a dolgozók körében végzett kérdőíves és mélyinterjús felméréseink szerint a korösszetétel kedvezőtlen képet mutat: a dolgozói kollektíva napjainkra túlságosan elöregedett. A jövedelemviszonyokat figyelembe véve a gazdaságok egyre kevésbé vonzóak a fiatal agrárértelmiségiek számára. A fiatalabb munkavállalók szinte kivétel nélkül kevesellték a bérüket. Az iskolázottságot vizsgálva elmondható, hogy a férfiak körében alacsonyabb, a nőknél több a magasabb...

CAP effects on labour use in agriculture: Evidence from alternative dynamic panel data models AgEcon
Petrick, Martin; Zier, Patrick.
Our aim is to investigate whether the direct payments and rural development measures of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) do make jobs in agriculture safer. We work with a dynamic labour demand equation that is augmented by the full set of policy instruments of the CAP. It is estimated on a unique regional panel dataset of three East German states for the period 1999-2006. We present results for three consistent estimators which differ in how they eliminate the fixed effects and how they instrument the lagged dependent variable, including estimators due to Arellano and Bond, Blundell and Bond, and a corrected least-squares dummy variable estimator due to Kiviet and Bruno. Our results suggest that there were few desirable effects on job maintenance...

Employment impacts of the Common Agricultural Policy in Eastern Germany – A regional panel data approach AgEcon
Petrick, Martin; Zier, Patrick.
Politicians and farm lobbyists frequently use the argument that agricultural policy is necessary to safeguard jobs in agriculture. We explore whether this is true by conducting an econometric ex-post evaluation of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy in the three East German States Brandenburg, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. Whereas previous studies have employed descriptive statistics or qualitative methods and have looked at single policy instruments in isolation, we apply a difference-in-difference estimator to analyse the employment effects of the entire portfolio of CAP measures simultaneously. Based on panel data at the county level, we find that direct payments for livestock, investment aid and transfers to less favoured areas had a zero...
